Write your spelling lists here!  Let’s keep trying!

Here is a problem.  I only get one student’s blog entry…. I don’t know why, but this isn’t working!  Make sure you add your spelling words to your spiral and on Thursday I will make you turn in a real piece of paper with all 10 words!  Argh!  Blog Jr. is not cooperating!

Don’t forget to write your additional spelling words on your page!  You can do it like this:

You now have a page all your own!  Check out the pages to the right.  They are there so you have a place online to record your spelling words.  I left the other pages there just in case you still want to comment on those books.  You may write to each other, however, I read every comment so keep that in mind.

The wax museum is March 3rd.

Yes, you read that right. Thanks to a few loquacious girls in the class, they are dominating the boys on this blog! Thanks for keeping me updated on your Little House of the Prairie excitement! Boys, I think you are winding down with Harry Potter! For such a great book, you sure don’t have much to say about it!

By the way, lil shrimp? What is the URL to your blog? I want to check it out!

Be meta cognitive about:

-be aware that you are asking questions as you read.

-be aware of the text to text, text to self and text to world schema you are reading about

When you are aware of these strategies, you will get more out of your story.  The more you get out of the story, the more you will enjoy the story!  The more you enjoy the story, the more you will want to read another story!  The more stories you read, the better reader you will become.  The better reader you become, the smarter you will be!  And that is satisfying.

So – BE META COGNITIVE!

Why are Harry Potter Books better than Little House books?  Why are Prairie books better than Judy Moody?  Why are Droon books better than Magic Tree house?  Why is the book you are reading better than the book your friend is reading?

I think you guys and gals were in first grade when we studied this artist. We all took a part of the picture and made one big picture. I have started a new page. It is called Looking at Art. I will put various pictures of art that I like on that page. If you find art that you like, let me know and I’ll stick that in too.

I know a lot of you really liked the movie.  I could tell by your excitement and comments.  Let’s discuss it here.  I’ll start.  It was entertaining.  However, I have to say that I much preferred the book.  I think the book was cleverly written.  I think the author of the book made Despereaux’s character more believable.  I was able to understand Roscuro’s mean behavior better in the book than the movie.  The animation was good.  I can say that about the book.  Let’s see what other people are saying about it.  Comment on your opinion.  Do you agree with me?  Do you disagree?  I want to know.
